I just finished reading One Day by David Nicholls and I really liked it! It was a perfect summer read. Here’s the synopsis.
It’s 1988 and Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley have only just met. But after only one day together, they cannot stop thinking about one another. Over twenty years, snapshots of that relationship are revealed on the same day—July 15th—of each year. Dex and Em face squabbles and fights, hopes and missed opportunities, laughter and tears. And as the true meaning of this one crucial day is revealed, they must come to grips with the nature of love and life itself. (Source)It took me a bit longer to read this book that it normally does as I have been so busy lately and haven’t had much time to read. The book is set in the UK and has a few slang words that I didn’t know but it was a pretty easy, entertaining read. I love reading simply for the fact that you get to peer into someone else’s life and this gave me that 100%.
Dexter and Emma are extremely relatable as characters. The background characters were developed really well and made the story come to life.Though this is not really a happily ever after kind of story, it has a great message and meaning. There are a few plot twists and turns that kept my interest, even when I didn’t pick it up for days at a time.
I am looking forward to seeing the movie adaptation, hopefully this weekend!
